Julia Fiona Roberts is the daughter of Betty Lou Bredemus, and Walter Grady Roberts. She was born on 28 October 1967 at Atlanta. She comes from the fourth Roberts family who lived in Atlanta. This began with her great grandfather John Pendleton Roberts who was farmer. Her father took an early interest in the theatre. As a student in Emory University he appeared in various productions both in and outside of campus. In 1953, he enlisted in the Air Force. While stationed at Biloxi in Mississippi, he appeared in a production that he performed in with Betty Lou Bredemus. The couple got married in the year 1955. Their son, Eric Anthony, was born in the year 1956. Walter was a student at Tulane University New Orleans Louisiana after leaving the Airforce in the year 1957. The family relocated in 1960 into Decatur Georgia where Walter began working at Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. Walter and Betty Lou began producing a television show for children in Decatur, Georgia called Bum Bum and His Buddies. They financed the production themselves. Later that year they founded the Actors and Writers Workshop which ran for six years. They had Lelisa Billingsley (also called Lisa) and Julia (also called Julie) at the time.
